Conflict Management
Conflict is an inevitable part of personal and professional life. This training helps participants understand the nature of conflict, why it arises, and how it evolves. By introducing the cycle of conflict and the Thomas–Kilmann Conflict Management Styles, participants will gain tools to approach conflicts more constructively. The session balances theory with experiential exercises, fostering skills in resolution and personal style awareness.
Training Session Program
📍 İzmir Biomedicine and Genome Center, Room 3004
14:00 – 14:30 | Opening, Introductions & Group Dynamics
The training begins with a participatory opening where participants introduce themselves, share expectations, and co-create the agenda together with the trainer. A short group dynamics activity helps build an atmosphere of openness and collaboration, laying the foundation for interactive learning throughout the session.
14:30 – 15:00 | What is Conflict?
Participants reflect on their own experiences of conflict and collectively explore what conflict means. The discussion highlights that conflict is not inherently negative but depends on how it is managed.
15:00 – 15:30 | Why Do We Have Conflicts?
This section explores the root causes of conflict, including unmet needs, clashing values, emotions, and organizational structures. Through interactive discussion, participants discover how these underlying factors often shape the way conflicts escalate.
15:30 – 16:00 | ☕ Coffee Break
16:00 – 16:30 | The Cycle of Conflict
Conflicts typically follow a recognizable cycle of escalation. In this part, participants examine how small misunderstandings can develop into entrenched disputes, and they reflect on moments in their own lives where this cycle played out.
16:30 – 17:00 | Conflict Resolution Approaches
Focus shifts to practical strategies for resolving conflicts. Participants learn that resolution is not about eliminating differences but about addressing them in a constructive way.
17:00 – 17:25 | Conflict Management Styles (Thomas–Kilmann Model)
The session introduces the five conflict management styles—Competing, Collaborating, Compromising, Accommodating, and Avoiding. Participants reflect on their own style preferences, discuss the strengths and limitations of each, and explore when different approaches are most effective.
17:25 – 17:30 | Wrap-up & Reflection
The training concludes with a short reflective closing where participants share their key takeaways and insights from the session.
